New York Fashion Week Recap

There will be plenty of metallic fabrics, full skirts, and asymmetrical cuts coming this fall. These were the predominant trends at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York this week.

Diane von Furstenberg featured a collection described as “menswear meets femininity.” “I always say I’d love to have a man’s life in a woman’s body,” von Furstenberg explained before her show.

Christian Siriano pleasantly surprised us with a collection of ready to wear separates and cocktail dresses. This was a big change for the designer who is known for his extravagant ballgowns.

Of course we have to mention Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief show on Friday night. Designers featured included Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, and Christian Dior. Celebrities to hit the runway included Kelly Osbourne, Dian Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, and Chris Brown. The show ended with a moving tribute to Alexander McQueen with a collection of his designs worn by the show’s most well known models including Naomi Campbell.

Watch clips from the Fashion for Relief show.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2010

By: Evelyn

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off this week at Bryant Park in New York City. The event takes place from February 11th through the 18th. Notably this will be the last season taking place in Bryant Park. Starting in September 2010 the iconic white tents will move to Damrosch Park.

Designers showing their Fall 2010 collections include Calvin Kline, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenberg, Charlotte Ronson, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, and Project Runway season four winner Christian Siriano. All the biggest names in American fashion will be showing their collections.

One of the biggest events happening this year is Naomi Campbell’s Fashion For Relief on February 12th at 7:00 PM. It is a star-studded charity fashion show and auction to help raise relief funds towards rebuilding the healthcare system for mothers and children in Haiti. The show will include a compilation of clothes from the world’s most respected and renowned fashion designers. Rachel Zoe is styling.

We will keep you posted on all the glitz and glamour coming out of Bryant Park this week. Right after Mercedes-Benz Fashion week ends London Fashion Week kicks off. We are excited to see our own Borris Powell show his collection in London on the 19th.
