Gucci Group Announces New McQueen Creative Director
Sarah Burton is the new creative director of Alexander McQueen. Burton was formerly the head of design of McQueen’s women’s wear. She was responsible for finishing McQueens final collection. CEO Jonathan Akeroyd stated the following in regards to his selection of Burton to fill the position, “Having worked alongside Lee McQueen for more than 14 years, [Sarah] has a deep understanding of his vision, which will allow the company to stay true to its core values.”
Organic Cotton Sales Up
In 2009 according to the Organic Exchange (OE) global retail sales of organic cotton apparel and home textiles grew 35% from $3.2 billion in 2008 to $4.3 billion in 2009. This is good news for local designer Lara Miller who is known for her use of eco-friendly fabrics.
Sean “Diddy” Combs joins the ranks of Martha Stewart and Tommy Hilfiger at Macy’s
Spring 2011 Macy’s will begin exclusively selling Sean John sportswear. The line will first be rolled out at 400 stores and will eventually be rolled out to all stores nationwide. Macy’s is optimistic about the success of this line. CEO Terry Lundgren explains, “We are committed to make this the most successful launch we’ve had.”
